Dressing room

It’s only taken me about 3 years but I’ve finally finished my dressing room off. When we moved here the master bedroom already had fitted wardrobes so we needed somewhere to house the wardrobes which we brought with us. That’s when we decided to use the box room as a dressing room but up until now it has been more of a dumping ground for anything and everything that we just couldn’t find a home for…. doesn’t everyone have one of those rooms!! The carpet was blue and I had an old desk in there which I was using as a dressing table so it never felt like the kind of dressing room I had in mind! Since I can remember I’ve always wanted a one, somewhere luxurious to spend ages getting ready then twirl and whirl in front of a huge mirror. All my clothes would be neatly hung and colour coded. Jeans, then dresses, then chunky knits…. Shoes would be in perfect rows… I would never have to rummage to find an item of clothing again! Maybe I’ve been watching too much Sex and the City!!!

Anyway, back to reality….there’s not much room to get ready in this dressing room never mind twirl but it just goes to show that any room, even the smallest of spaces can be transformed into your very own personal dressing room. So I found a gorgeous pine dresser in a second hand furniture shop which I picked up for a steal and thats what spurred me on to get the dressing room finished. The wardrobes block quite a bit of light coming through the window so I wanted to keep the room light and feminine. I went for Farrow and Ball Cornforth white on the walls as I already had some left over from my bedroom (before I painted over it in off black as Cornforth white looked too lilac in there!) With living in a rented house we didn’t want to spend money on getting a new carpet fitted so thats when the La Redoute sale came in handy! I measured up and this rug was the perfect size, I got 30% off which is always a bonus and it means when we move we can just take the rug with us. I wanted some kind of lacey curtains to soften the room and give it a boho feel so I chose these from Ikea which are perfect. Once the curtains were up and the rug was down it felt like a totally different room.
