A couple of weeks ago I showed you my son, Alfie’s revamped loft bedroom and today I wanted to talk to you about the roof blinds that we chose. Like most loft conversions it is fitted with Velux windows as a result of the slant in the roof. There are 6 in total so as you can imagine the room is filled with light as soon as the sun rises. Therefore the correct fitting blinds is vital but also the correct colour, finishing touches in any room can make all the difference. The blinds that were in there when we moved in were blue and once I started decorating the bedroom, I soon realised that this shade of blue did not fit in with my colour scheme.
I actually really love roof blinds because of their sleek, minimal look and also they’re made to measure so they’re perfect for a kids room. Especially if you go for blackout blinds like we did, once they’re closed there’s no light whatsoever entering the room. So after searching online I found the perfect roof blinds at Blinds Direct. They were available in an array of colours which I think is really important. Choosing the right colour for blinds or curtains can make a huge difference to the look and feel of the room. A few things to take into consideration are the size of the room, think about whether you want the blinds to be an actual feature in the room and if you do then go for a colour that will pop against your walls. If you prefer them to blend in then choose a colour similar to your wall colour to unify the space. I decided to go for black as I wanted a contrast between the grey walls but I didn’t want to add any more colour. Having never ordered roof blinds before I didn’t really know where to start but the Blinds Direct website had everything that I needed to make ordering quick and easy. There’s also great instructions on how to get the size of your windows… no tape measure required! But make sure you don’t just presume all 6 windows are the same like I did!! The blinds were much more reasonable in price that I expected and they have 50% off most roof blinds at the moment too.
With a little help from my husband we replaced the old roof blinds with the new ones and they were so simple to do. I’m so chuffed with how they look, the black looks so much better and has totally transformed the room. Also the quality is fantastic, they glide open and close really smoothly. So I’m super happy that Alfie’s bedroom is now completely finished. He is one happy boy and loves his new blackout blinds, especially when playing his Xbox…. there’s a shock!!
Here are some before and after photo’s. What do you think?

I’m so happy with the new blinds.
I always wanted a room with a ceiling like that when I was a little kid.
