Breakfast table setting, Kerry Lockwood kitchen

AD – Paid promotion with Fenwick.

On a weekend when we don’t have to be up and out early for football, there’s nothing we love more than a lazy family breakfast. Brew a nice strong pot of tea, squeeze some fresh orange juice and lure the kids away from their electronics with freshly warmed croissants and hot buttered toast, usually followed by Daddy’s famous pancakes with lashings of syrup! So when Fenwick launched their own label food and drink range, we couldn’t wait to try it.

Having lived so close to Newcastle for the past 18 years, one of my favourite stores to visit is Fenwick. There’s something magical about this department store, the lighting, the smell, the friendly staff and the fact that they have pretty much everything you need under one roof. Last year they totally revamped their food hall and along with a handful of amazing restaurants to choose from they also have a delicatessen, a wine room and a fabulous range of international and regional artisan food and drink produce on sale. So it made perfect sense for them to launch their own label food and drinks range to sit alongside these.

There are 29 luxury new products which have launched in time for Christmas, using the finest, British ingredients so you can be assured of a traditional, homemade taste. These include gin liqueurs, teas, coffee, hot chocolate, biscuits, preserves and honey, plus 7 festive Christmas products with mini mince pies and chutney. What I love about this new range is how it’s all tailored towards sharing, bringing family and friends together.

Packaged in Fenwick branded colours, with the addition of pink. The design is inspired by the British history of weaving, patterns and fabric making. I love how each pattern varies but they all work so well together. The design is a perfect match for my kitchen,  don’t you think?!

I can’t function in a morning without with a steaming hot cup of tea . I have to admit that I find Earl Grey more of an acquired taste but it is something that has definitely grown on me as I’ve matured {I prefer matured to old!} ! Also, I much prefer a loose tea in a pot as it reminds me of my Nan! There’s also a Breakfast Assam whole leaf tea in the collection which is more easy drinking so great for any time of the day.

I just love the smell of fresh coffee, it’s my Elvenses fix most days! The Fenwick hand- roasted Arabica coffee is delicious and a perfect all-day drinking coffee. It is crafted down the road from me in Newcastle Upon Tyne in small batches to guarantee optimum freshness.

Fenwick’s own jams and preserves are perfect for a leisurely breakfast. Strawberry and Yorkshire Rhubarb jam is my absolute fave, the rhubarb gives it a bit of a kick making it perfect dolloped on toast, slathered with butter! I prefer sweet to bitter so usually give marmalade a miss but actually the Fenwick Satsuma and Whitby gin marmalade is delicious, Paddington would be in his element!

There are two different types of honey in the collection. One is Yorkshire honey, which is sourced from hives dotted across Yorkshire and the other is Northumberland Street honey, which is actually made from the bees on the rooftop at Fenwick, Newcastle. There’s only a limited number of the Northumberland Street honey available from the Newcastle store, so make sure you try some before it’s gone! Both types are really delicious. We go through so much honey, especially at this time of year as we love a bowl of warming porridge with a big dollop of honey to sweeten it. I also use honey in my tea as an alternative to sugar.

I may have saved the best till last! It’s a tough call but I think my favourite product in the new Fenwick own brand food range is their delicious Milk drinking chocolate flakes. As a total chocoholic, I can vouch that this isn’t just any kind of drinking chocolate! It is real milk chocolate flakes and when stirred into hot milk, it is the most delicious hot chocolate I’ve ever tasted… and I’ve tried a lot in my 40 years!!

So as I mentioned above, there are also 7, festive Christmas products in the range, plus other items like gin Liqueurs, bars of chocolate and more in the core range. Fenwick also intend on expanding the core range over time with new products being introduced at regular intervals, including new seasonal collections. To view their full collection head to their website or one of their 9 stores.

Let me know if you’ve tried any of the new Fenwick own brand label yet? Would love to know which is your favourite.
