I can’t actually believe how quickly November has come around this year, I really can’t avoid saying the “C” word any longer!! Now that Halloween and Bonfire night are over it’s the perfect time to throw out all the pumpkins and switch up the decor. Before I sneakily start adding the odd Christmas decoration (without the Hubby noticing) I thought I would give the house a good clean. So when Dyson asked if I could review the Dyson Light ball I jumped at the chance.
I already have the original Dyson DC25 ball vacuum which I love, it was my very first Dyson and I was amazed to see how fast the cylinder fills up… how does our house get so dirty? I blame the dog!! I was pretty excited when the new Light Ball arrived, I do love a shiny new gadget.
The assembly was straight forward and everything pieced together nicely, just clip on the brush bar and slot the hose and handle into place. This does work differently to my old Dyson so at first I thought I was doing something wrong but I wasn’t…. They didn’t call me the queen of jigsaws for nothing when I was a child!!
There is no lever to tilt the vacuum, you just simply pull it back and it clicks from its upright position and back easily. The first thing I noticed when I switched it on is how much quieter it is then my previous Dyson, the dog didn’t run for the hills like he usually does! It is very slim and lightweight weighing only 6.9kg so I found this much better for carrying up and down the stairs, especially as we have two lots of stairs and my Son who happens to be the messiest has his bedroom right at the top in the loft conversion! I also love the multi floor feature, you can turn the brush on and off to seamlessly go from carpet to rugs to hard floors and it doesn’t lose any suction because of the Radial Root Cyclone™ technology that is designed to maximize power. The ball along with how lightweight it is makes it effortless to manoeuvre around furniture and obstacles. This was collected from just vacuuming for 5 minutes…. I do clean my house I promise!!!!
As part of my pre Christmas clean I wanted to reach into the corners of the rooms to get the cobwebs before any 8 legged friends get the wrong idea and start to get comfy! I’ve also heard that conkers are good to keep these at bay… any other recommendations are gratefully received!! Anyway I digress… back to the Dyson, the hose stretches 3m and the wand is 90cm’s, they both release in one, quick, smooth action so it’s perfect to reach those high corners.
The Dyson light ball comes with two washable lifetime filters so no additional expense. One on the top which is really easy to remove and the other is located on one half of the ball (see below) this one was a bit more tricky as it quite tight to pop off but I think it will loosen with time after it’s been washed a couple of times. It also comes with 2 attachments, one of which is a stair tool. I particularly love this one as our mischievous cockapoo is allowed upstairs and the stair tool is perfect for removing hairs, it is also small enough to get into the tight corners. The other tool is a combination tool which is long and slim allowing easy cleaning under sofas and in tight spaces. It has a long bristled brush which pulls down and is perfect to clean things like sofa cushions as you can suck up the dust without having the rest of the fabric get drawn up into the nozzle too.
Another huge advantage of the Dyson Light Ball is that it reduces or removes allergens from the home and therefore is certified asthma and allergy friendly and one thing I love about Dyson is the hygienic bin emptying, no need to get your hands dirty, just push the button to release the dirt. When it comes to stowing it away this is such a lovely, slim vacuum, it fits perfectly in my tiny utility room.
So would I recommend it? Yes 100% The lighter weight makes a huge difference and gives the same brilliant performance as heavier weight vacuums. At RRP £199.00 it is also a great price.
