We’re really lucky to have a fair amount of storage in our bathroom but I’ve had lots of requests from those of you who don’t asking about stylish ways to hide away all those essential toiletries. Whether it’s insufficient under-sink storage, missing towel bars, no closet or the lack of a medicine cabinet, not having adequate storage space in your bathroom can make for a cramped, cluttered and chaotic living situation. Even if you only buy top of the range toiletries, it doesn’t matter how nice the packaging is or how good the brand is, they still look cluttered and messy when left out on show. The thing to remember is that you don’t have to stick to conventional bathroom storage and furniture otherwise your bathroom can end up feeling far too sterile and boring. A lot of the time it’s not necessarily what you use but how you style it and thinking outside the box can make a huge difference. Take this Ikea Hemnes shelving unit. It isn’t conventional bathroom storage and neither does it give you the wow factor, but styling it with a rustic old crate, a plant and some lovely accessories really does make it far more stylish. It’s a slim unit too which is great if you have a small bathroom, it is also available in white but I love the black.

Freestanding storage is a great option if you are renting as it can easily be packed up to move with you and there’s no need to do any drilling to the walls, also great if you frequently change the design of your bathroom. Style them with lovely co-ordinating towels, vintage apothecary jars filled with cottonwool balls and cotton buds then add a plant or two. Shop my edit below.

Counter top storage – Small baskets are ideal to store all your toiletries in and also hide away the dreaded cif and yellow marigolds! These can be placed on the vanity unit if you have space or kept on shelving to keep everything looking neat and tidy. With all the shiny porcelain, ceramic and smooth lines in a bathroom it’s great to add different textures to really make your bathroom feel much warmer and cosy. Shop my edit below.
