I’m not sure about you but when someone mentions crystal the image that pops into my head is really old fashioned cut wine glasses. The type my Nan used to get out on special occasions like Christmas! Filled with sweet, sparkling wine and served alongside the overcooked turkey and soggy sprouts, she did make an amazing stuffing though!! So when Dartington Crystal contacted me to see if I would be interested in collaborating with them it took me right back to that place!
Remember these?
I hopped over to their website to take a look and I was very pleasantly surprised! In fact I was spoilt for choice! Glasses for cocktails, gin, champagne, prosecco {who knew there were two different glasses for champagne and prosecco?!} tumblers, highballs… so much choice and thats just the drinksware section. They also have a cut glass section, how stunning are these? Not a soggy sprout in sight! Perfect for serving water at the table, such gorgeous colours.
Their homeware section includes beautiful crystal jugs, bowls, vases and candle holders to name a few. You can even have the crystal engraved if you wish. Suddenly my own collection of glasses just don’t seem to “cut” it! {pardon the pun, lol!!} So I opted for some new glasses. I was torn between two different gift sets, a gin one or a fizz one where you get 3 different style glasses in each set for your favourite tipple. So for example the fizz one has a classic flute, a stylish coupe and a specialist prosecco glass so you can experience and enjoy sparkling wines plus glamorous cocktails. However both my Husband and I love a G&T so I decided to go for the Gintuition set which is three crystal glasses that are perfect for G&T’s or gin cocktails.
The set includes:
Classic high-ball – The go-to glass for a great gin and tonic. Known in the trade as a ‘Collins’ glass a wide variety of gin-based cocktails can be served in it.
Martini glass – Perfect for a gin cocktail, French 75 anyone?
Copa glass – The larger style allows room for more ice, keeping your G&T icy cold. The long stem allows you to support the glass without warming with your hand, and the extra room leaves plenty of space for a garnish of rosemary or a lime wedge to infuse if you desire.
Such a great idea if you can’t decide which type of glass you prefer your G&T in… try all 3 then stock up on your fave or just go for a selection, I love to mix and match.
They arrived the next day, packaged in a beautiful gift box. When I first opened the box I wasn’t expecting to be wowed by them like I was, they are such beautiful glasses. The quality compared to my normal glassware is unbelievable, the glass is so thin yet they feel so solid and reassuringly heavy. Gin has never tasted so good!
Such a unique, thoughtful gift idea… don’t you think?
Here’s my twist on a traditional G&T which I first tasted in Cornwall a few years ago and have loved ever since.
50ml Gin
12ml Elderflower Cordial
125ml Tonic water
sprig mint
Choose your favourite gin glass, add few cubes of ice, pour over your Gin followed by the elderflower cordial and tonic water. Add a large sprig of mint… voila!
